Our District

The Upper Hunter, with Scone at it’s centre, is a prosperous rural area, set amidst rolling hills and mountains. The Liverpool ranges to the north, the Barrington Tops to the east, Moobi Range on the west.
The district is renowned for its fine horse studs and wineries, in addition to the traditional farming pursuits.
Scone itself has many attractions for visitors. Places of historical interest, a public golf course, the Mare and Foal and much more.

Natural features of special interest must include the Burning Mountain, a fascinating phenomenon, a good morning’s walk (max. 45 min. each way). The trail is signposted with interesting educational material. The mountain is located 20km north of Scone. Take the drive through Cressfield on the way back, it is a true country road, but watch out for the cattle.

And don’t forget to look into the glorious junk and antique store at Wingen.

Lake Glenbawn offers fishing, boating, glorious views and is well worth a visit. It is approx. 25 minutes drive from LeCamah Hill.

For a real Australian Pub experience, we heartily recommend the Victoria Pub at Moonan Flat, approx. 30 minutes from Lake Glenbawn. You would expect “Dad and Dave” to be standing at the bar.

There are many wineries in the district, such as:

Two Rivers Wines , Denman      Rosemount Estate, Denman       Tyrrells Winery  Glenbawn
Arrowfield Vineyard, Jerrys Plains        Yarraman Estates, Wybong    Inglewood Vineyard, Denman

Horse Capital of Australia

For Polo fanciers we need hardly mention Ellerston, some 20 minutes past Moonan Flat.

For the horse lover, Scone is a must. Some of the world’s finest horses stand at stud here. Some Melbourne Cup winners hail from the district.

We advise you to make an appointment with the authorized tour guide, if you wish to investigate in detail. Contact us in advance. Just driving past can be very interesting.

The drive to Kars Springs, starting at our gate, is very picturesque, as is the Tourist Road to Merriwa, a delightful township with interesting antique shops.

At Bunnan you can take a left, some 20km, to another group of wineries, including the famous Rosemount Estate.

………after a busy day you can return via the back roads to relax at LeCamah Hill before dinner.
